Horsethief Cyn/Rattlesnake Cyn Day Trip

March 15, 2014 @ 07:30 - 20:00

2 trails, on the N. side on the mountain from Big Bear. We’ll meat up at El Coyote Loco at 7:30. Come earlier if you want to have a good breakfast. The 1st trail will be Horse-Thief. It’s a box canyon, so we’ll come back out the same way we go in. Then will go into the Bighorn Mountain Wilderness area, have lunch, then head north through Rattlesnake Canyon. And YES, there are rattlesnakes in there.

Tire size/ min. is 32″. Locker, maybe. It’s challenging but you shouldn’t brake anything. We’ll be on VHF, Sierra Safari 1 & C/B #4.
El Coyote Loco is on the right side of Hwy 18, about 1 1/4 miles before the 76 station, where you turn right to go up the mountain to Big Bear.  Address for your GPS: 31455 California 18 Lucerne Valley, CA 92356

Chris & I have decided not to hassle the commute nor do RV camping. We’re going to stay in Victorville on Fri & Saturday night. Looks like Peter & Deb are doing the same. We’re staying at La Quinta Inn & Suites, Hesperia/Victorville 12000 Mariposa Rd, Hesperia, CA 92345, 1-760-9900

      Horsethief Cyn/Rattlesnake Cyn Run – 03/15/14
Kieth lead us on a great run, with 7 Jeeps, good people, and perfect weather. Lots of sights, rocks, and good times. Kieth really put the TR in SCVTR. That’s Santa Clarita Valley Turn ‘Rounds. Of course I offered all the bad advice I had to try and assist him. Newcomers, Dan & Monique, took their new white 4-door Rubicon and ventured forth boldly. I expect we’ll see them again.
      — feeling awesome.
